The Batman/Penguin debate
The Adam West Batman TV series did a pretty good spoof of the McCain/Obama debate. Penguin's imitation of McCain is eerie...and 40 years ahead of its time.

Warhammer 40K: For the Emperor!
For the first time in weeks, I got a good, complete, game of 40K tonight. A friend, Mark, came over and challenged my Deathwing (ultra-elite Space Marines) with a huge horde of Orks. I squeaked out a victory, barely. It was a lot of fun and a nailbiter until the end.

I certainly find I like playing at home a lot better than playing at game stores. You can turn on the stereo, order a pizza, and not be annoyed by kids asking you questions about your miniatures, or sales staff trying to sell you on the newest army.

I am constantly being amazed at how good a job GW did of writing and editing the newest edition of the rules. It seems that almost every time there is a question about rules, I can easily find a clear, concise answer in the rules. The newest edition has led to the least rules arguments of any edition of game.

In other Warhammer 40K news, Fantasy Flight Games has announced the roleplaying game I have waited for ever since I got a copy of the first edition of Warhammer 40K. They are releasing Rogue Trader: The Roleplaying Game. I have been imagining running a "Firefly in the W40K universe" game for years and when the WH40KRPG was released a couple years ago, I was disappointed to find it only included the stuff for running a game based on Inquisitors, not smugglers and Rogue Traders. Now there will be rules! (Thanks to [info]cochese for pointing this out. For your reward, I will run a diceless Rogue Trader game at the next con we share. You just need to remind me when I go to submit games.)

Writer's Block: A.A. Milne

Some people find Eeyore’s gloomy outlook charming. Others prefer the bouncy enthusiasm of Tigger. Who would you rather be trapped in an elevator with: Eeyore or Tigger?

View 501 Answers

I used to work with Eeyore. He hated how people always pointed out how Eeyore-like he was, but then he had a negative thing to say about almost everything.

He was also hilarious. I love Tigger in the Pooh books, but I actually find Eeyore to be funnier. The sarcasm..... such fun.

Also, Tigger is fun and cheerful, but you can imagine what he would be like after being trapped in an elevator, unable to bounce properly, for a few hours? He would be HELL to be with. Eeyore would be no different than he normally would be. In fact he would tell you how he expected something like this would happen to him today. It's just his luck.

Ideally, I would like to be stuck in the elevator with Pooh, Piglet or Rabbit. Any of those three would be trying to throw out ideas on how to get out of the elevator or get help....and even if they haven't got anything but fluff in their brains, they sometimes come up with good ideas.

New Item at Trader Joe's
When I worked at TJ's, they encouraged (and I assume still do) telling the truth when a customer asks you what you think of an item. If you don't like an item, tell them and tell them why. This wasn't a problem because I liked most items I tried at TJ's. One of the very few exceptions was the Hummus.

Well, for folks around here at least, this has changed. (Different regions of TJ's have different stock, so I have no idea if this true on the west coast.) They have a new Hummus, "Mediterranean Creamy & Smooth Hummus," and I like it as much as I like the Hummus from La Shish (locals will know what I mean). It is THAT good. I haven't been driving to TJ's as often for my general grocery shopping as often these days. With the price of gas, I find I would rather just take advantage of whatever sales my local Meijer's is running. This changes that as I think I will want to have this Hummus on hand at all times.
